Forever Green Initiative
The Forever Green Initiative will be exhibiting with perennial crop innovators from American Hazelnut Company (Fresh Hazelnuts from Midwest Farms: Roasted Hazelnuts, HazelSnackers, hazelnut flour, and hazelnut oil) and featuring additional innovators who offer American elderberries and Kernza perennial grain. Each of these novel crops produces great-tasting ingredients for restaurants and food service providers while supporting water quality, soil health, and biodiversity. They are a great addition to menus with a focus on sustainability and regional sourcing. The Forever Green Initiative at the University of Minnesota combines crop breeding research with commercialization for perennial and winter-hardy annual crops that protect soil and water while driving new economic opportunities for growers, industry, and communities across Minnesota. By combining these novel crops with traditional annual crops, farmers can keep the soil covered all year round.
